How to Grow on Lens. Interlude: grow your Gang 0 to 20 🔥
Create a close Gang of 20 friends to get the max out of your social graph.
Disclaimer: This post is part of a series on how to grow your Lens account. https://www.lens.xyz/ is a good starting point to learn what Lens is. But what is below can apply to other social interactions in life 💪.
I started this series of posts on how to grow your Lens account with the idea of providing help to people new to the platform that needed help to get the first responses for the content they were producing 🔮.
But what I was missing here is that to have a healthy social life, you need to have a few very close friends that are the backbone of your relationships 🤟.
I thank AlicΞ for pointing it out because this is one the best pieces of advice we can give anyone interested in creating something in a community.
To grow on Lens, you need to make friends, people that you are there for them, and they are there for you ✌️.
People you support and are willing to support your content and creativity. A circular thing ↺.
With this in mind, we can start building a network of like-minded people designing the future of social communication.
Use these links to generate better content, apps, and societies.
Gentle reminder: Lens doesn't work if you want only to extract value from it.
The gang of 20
As AlicΞ pointed out, the first goal you should have when approaching Lens is to create your gang of 20 people. A small club of people with whom you connect regularly is the first entry point for your content, the ones you get inspiration from and the ones you regularly share ideas with.
But how to get there? How can I get these friends?
The best advice here is to be authentic and have a child's curiosity for every kind of content produced by others, by their lives, motivations, and destinies.
Below you can find some other tactics you can use to achieve it.
The point of view I am giving here is more on the content creation side, but you can use the same things even if you are on Lens just for fun or to know new people.
#1 Find who you want to connect with 🔥
Explore the app and find the content you love most. Find the accounts providing content you enjoy and get under their radar.
Anyway, be moderate in trying to get noticed. It is ok if these creators want to have a more casual approach.
#2 Look for friends, not for followers 💪
Followers are usually passive. They look for what you publish and don't interact too much.
What you need to look for in your first gang of 20 is friends, people who like you, care about what you do and take their time to see your progress, life, and adventures.
#3 Comment posts you enjoy most ✍️
Comments are an underexploited way of getting attention from others. Explore what they want to communicate and consistently engage with the accounts you want to bind with.
It will be pretty easy to get noticed by them.
#4 Use DMs 💬
DMs are one of the best ways to get noticed.
But I suggest first having previous interactions with the ones you want to DM and being moderate in DMing other accounts.
Use DMs to get help others, connect, provide feedback, and create new projects together.
And ask this question: How can I help you?
It can lead to unexplored territories.
#5 Provide suggestions, ideas 💡
To grow your gang of 20, you can suggest ways to improve their content while pointing out what you like in their creations. Let them know what they're doing right and suggest new things they could try while making them care about what you care about.
It's always appreciated and will show others you are interested in what they share.
#6 Ask for feedback 🗣️
Asking for feedback is the counterpart of #5.
As you can provide ideas to others, you can also ask them the same. It can lead to better content and a broader vision.
#7 Be generous and kind ☺️
Don't always look for something when connecting with other accounts. If you do things only to receive back, you will limit your possibilities.
Be generous and give a lot to others. I am sure it will be worth it.
#8 Discover talents and connect with them 🔬
Big accounts can be interesting, but what about small accounts that create fantastic content nobody notices?
There are a lot of accounts with 20 followers that are posting valuable content and need to get attention.
Try to connect and help them get more visibility.
#9 Support Diversity ⚡️
Diversity is a value we need in Lens as anywhere else—diversity of content and points of view.
How can we grow this incredible community if we are all like-minded and see things similarly?
#10 Remember, this is very easy 😌
Lens is a very young platform. Getting visible for any active account is relatively easy. You simply need to connect with others, be authentic and provide value.
You will figure it out quite quickly if you work on this consistently.
#11 Think about Lens as a lifetime opportunity 👀
You are in a platform that can become the next level of social media, your future social graph, owned by you, with your connections, content, and monetization opportunities.
You also have the unfair advantage of being there before it becomes accessible to everyone. Think about creating a personal brand, becoming an expert, and providing value now. It will be 100x harder when everything is open.
#12 20 is just the beginning 📈
A gang of 20 is the starting point for what you can achieve on Lens. Try to connect with as many people as possible, and enjoy sharing, communicating, and supporting each other.
Recap
The best journeys are the ones with friends, where you can connect, share, learn, improve, and move faster.
Creating your gang of 20, 50, and 100 is the best way to make solid roots in the Lens Garden.
I hope you enjoyed the post.
